Born in 1982 in the city of Brasília – DF, Marianna Chaves spent much of her life in the city of João Pessoa – PB, where she graduated in Law in 2006.
Also in 2006, she underwent the examinations of Brazilian BAR, held on 08/20 and 17/09, and was approved. Newly graduated, she applied for a Master’s Degree in Legal Sciences at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon. She started taking classes in November 2006 and defended the master’s thesis “Homoafetividade e Direito: Uma Perspectiva Luso-Brasileira” on March 26 of 2010, with the final classification of Very Good.
She is a specialist in Legal Sciences from University of Lisbon (2008); Postgraduate Degree in Affiliation, Adoption and Protection of Minors by the University of Lisbon (2008); Postgraduate in Law of Bioethics and Medicine by the Portuguese Association of Intellectual Law (APDI) and University of Lisbon (2008).
In 2009, she took the Theory-Practical Course on Conflict Mediation and the Theoretical-Practical Course on Family Mediation at the Institute of Mediation and Arbitration of Portugal (both courses are recognized by the Ministry of Justice). In 2010 she attended the 5th Short Course of Post-Graduation in Informed Consent of the Center for Biomedical Law, University of Coimbra.
She did the 14th Postgraduate Course in Child Protection – Prof. Dr. F. M. Pereira Coelho, in the academic year of 2010/2011. In 2011, she successfully completed the academic part of the PhD in Civil Law at the University of Coimbra, with a final classification of 17 values.
In 2016 she attended the 3rd Brief Course of Post-Graduation in Law and Reproductive Medicine of the Center for Biomedical Law, University of Coimbra. In December 2016 she delivered her doctoral thesis in Civil Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (under a co-supervision system with the University of São Paulo), awaiting the public discussion of the thesis.

É Diretora de Relações Internacionais do IBDFAM – PB; Secretária de Relações Internacionais do IBDFAM; Membro da Comissão Especial de Diversidade Sexual do Conselho Federal da OAB; Membro da International Society of Family Law, da American BAR Association (onde é membro internacional da Comissão de Técnicas de Reprodução Assistida) e da World Association for Medical Law; Membro da European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.
É pesquisadora do Teoria e História do Direito, Centro de Investigação da Universidade de Lisboa (THD-ULisboa); Foi Pesquisadora-Assistente do Instituto de Investigación Científica (Universidade de Lima – Peru) entre os anos de 2009 e 2012, tendo auxiliado na elaboração de um Tratado de Direito das Famílias de autoria do Prof. Doutor Enrique Varsi Rospigliosi.
É autora da obra Homoafetividade e Direito, com três edições publicadas pela Editora Juruá (2011, 2012 e 2015) e de diversos artigos jurídicos publicados em obras coletivas e revistas especializadas, no Brasil e em vários outros países; Investigadora, Consultora e Advogada militante no Direito das Famílias e Direito da Saúde. She is Director of International Relations of IBDFAM – PB; Secretary of International Relations of IBDFAM (Brazilian Institute of Family Law); Member of the Special Committee on Sexual Diversity of the Federal Council of the Brazilian BAR; Member of the International Society of Family Law, American BAR Association (where she is an international member of the Committee on Assisted Reproductive Techniques) and the World Association for Medical Law; Member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.
She is a researcher on Teoria e História do Direito, Research Center of the University of Lisbon (THD-ULisboa); She was an Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Scientific Research (University of Lima – Peru) between 2009 and 2012, having assisted in the elaboration of a Family Law Treaty authored by Prof. Doctor Enrique Varsi Rospigliosi.
She is the author of Homoafetividade e Direito, with three editions published by Editora Juruá (2011, 2012 and 2015) and several legal articles published in collective works and specialized journals in Brazil and in several other countries; Researcher, Consultant and Lawyer in Family Law and Health Law.
